You’re made of ocean–
I can see it in your eyes
and the way your heart beats
like a starfish,
curling beneath your ribs
then reaching out again.
If I could swim inside your waves I would,
gently rock back and forth
to smooth away the hard edges,
then drift underneath
and watch the sun rise
blurry in the sky.
And when I come up for air
you’ll lay me in the soft sand
and mold my body into a pearl,
then swallow me
so that I’m always a part of you.
